Mission Statement

BLACK PUPILS.COM MISSION STATEMENT

BLACK PUPILS.COM SEEKS TO RAISE THE ASPIRATIONS AND  SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF BLACK PUPILS.

Aims for Black Pupils site (Mango Village)

To provide a resource that challenges and supports Black Pupils to enable them to :-

Explore issues of growing up.
Make the most of their school opportunities
Fulfil their social and academic potential
Take their rightful place in the community
Engage in the shaping of society

This resource will achieve its’ aims by:-

Enabling Black pupils to access Educational Materials,Resources and Information.
Promoting positive values and addressing moral issues/
Identifying the barriers to education for Black pupils andexploring ways to overcome those barriers.
Providing a channel for a “two way” dialogue in order that Black pupils may develop and share their ideas with fellow pupils, their parents, communities and schools.
Attracting Black pupils to educational issues in a “fun” way , e.g. ;Educational Games, Talkback and Debating Pages, Challenges and Competitions.
Looking at the pressures on young people as they adapt to the changing world of adulthood.
Help to nurture and develop an enterprise mindset and skill values.
Examining the issues of Black identity and it’s contribution to a mixed culture society .
Identifying the issues of racism in and out of school and looking at ways to counter individual and institutional racism.
Encouraging Black pupils to participate in their local community and identify what they can offer to that community in terms of ; skills culture and commitment.
Raising the sense of belonging and ownership within that community.
Examining issues relating to; peer pressure and the risks of being drawn into anti social behaviour, helping them to make the right choices.
Exploring ways in which to avoid confrontation.
Exploring the options for life after school and identifying the need to prepare for those options.
Providing items of topical interest e.g. News and Current affairs.

Aims for Black Parents 

To provide a resource that empowers, challenges and facilitates Black parents and carers of Black pupils in order to enable them to contribute more effectively towards maximising the social and academic potential of their children. In addition the site will be used as a consultation mechanism to elicit the views and opinions of parents on pertinent matters.

Aims for Community Groups 

To provide a resource that informs, empowers, challenges facilitates Community Groups and Faith  organisations to support Black pupils to maximise their academic potential and gain a greater sense of belonging to and ownership of the communities of which they are part. In addition the site will be used s a vehicle for consulting with community groups. 

Aims for Schools

To provide a resource that supports and informs teachers as well as challenge conventional thinking with the view to improving teaching practice to ensure the well being of, and improved academic performance of  Black Pupils.
